BENEATH LOS ANGELES |
Terry, the dog who played Toto in the 1939 "Wizard of Oz" died in 1945 and was buried on the ranch of her trainer, Carl Spitz, in Studio City. In the 1950s, the ranch was paved over to make way for the Ventura Freeway and this apartment complex parking lot. Toto lies under the freeway, about where that palm tree is in the middle of the photo.
On June 18, 2011, after lotsa work by JP Myers, Myself, and the generosity of Tyler Cassity and Hollywood Forever Cemetery, Toto is now memorialized with a marker fitting the star status of the pooch. Watch this video to see how this all came about.
