Col. Griffith J. Griffith

An eccentric in the true sense of the word, he was a wealthy rancher, who, in a paranoid state, shot his wife in the eye (she survived) believing she was conspiring with the Pope to steal his money. He donated the 3,000 acres that are now Griffith Park, and designed the Greek Theatre.
